Christmas is now upon us and it’s time for us at Seacroft Grange to take stock of what has been the most amazing 7 weeks so far. During this time we have had the honour of 36 people coming to live with us here on both The Courtyard and Fairview units which are for people over the age of 65 with various needs. In January The Green unit opens up and this will help 19 people with mixed nursing and residential needs. Then we aim in late January our services for younger people will be up and running. These will cater for people in the 18 to 65 age group who have either a physical disability and or a Brain Injury. So far our services have been so popular, in fact well in excess of what we had initially hoped.
Feedback on what we have been able to do for our residents has been equally amazing, we have had families tell us their mum’s Alzheimer’s has regressed they feel by at least a year because of the care she is receiving. We have had another family tell us that their mum is happy again now and enjoying the freedom to go out so much it’s amazing the difference we have made to her in just 10 days, and indeed another family commented “What a difference a day makes!”
Plans for the future remain as exciting as ever with the new services coming in January and increase in staff and hours of opening of our bistro and activities next year promises to be equally as amazing as our first 7 weeks especially with our why not attitude and ensuring that our care truly is “About living…”
I also find this time of year is one where we generally give thanks, indeed our American cousins have a holiday just for this, so it is time for me to do the same. There are so many people I need to thank it’s impossible to do so individually but to all our residents, their families and friends, our GPs, our pharmacists, our staff and our staff’s families THANK YOU.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
