Springfield Healthcare Infection Prevention
Springfield Healthcare have established an Infection Prevention Champions team (IPC) in which representatives from each home come together to regularly review government guidance, best practice and deliver training to all staff to ensure they are fully aware of their own responsibilities in helping to maintain a safe environment within the homes. The IPC team are on hand 24-hours a day, to provide information or offer guidance should any of our staff require it.
There are many aspects to infection prevention, but we have outlined a few key areas below:
Throughout this pandemic, our care homes have been fully supplied and remain well stocked with high quality personal protective equipment (PPE) that complies with government requirements. Screens have also been put in place on all reception desks.
CLEANING AND HYGIENE
Our housekeeping teams are rigorous in ensuring our homes provide a sterile environment for our residents. Our preventative measures include uniforms not being worn outside of the care homes, increased cleaning and disinfecting regimes, frequent hand washing and use of antibacterial gels, installation of mobile hand washing units, maintaining social distancing where possible and the correct use of PPE.
Regular COVID-19 tests are being carried out on all staff, and where possible, our residents too. We temperature check all staff, along with any care professionals, prior to their entry into the home.
All our care homes remain open to new admissions, and strict safety measures have been put in place in accordance with government guidelines so this can continue. To ensure our residents and staff remain safe, we are currently unable to facilitate an in person show round of any of our care homes. However, to provide those looking for a care home with the ability to see and experience our facilities first hand, we are in the process of creating a “virtual tour” of each home which will be available on our websites soon, if not already.
We have adapted our daily routines to keep everyone safe, but as far as possible with minimal impact on the lives of our residents. The care we provide remains the same high-quality service we pride ourselves on, our kitchens continue to serve a variety of delicious and nutritious meals, and our activities team continue to look after the well-being and entertainment of our residents. We understand it has been difficult for all during lockdown, especially as we had to cease all visits in the homes to protect everyone within them. To ensure our residents and their loved ones can keep in contact, we have been facilitating calls between loved ones with the aid of technology and are now starting visits where they can be accommodated safely.
Throughout this pandemic, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have continued to assess care homes to ensure the required standards of care are maintained. They have also introduced a new framework to evaluate how a care provider has managed Coronavirus and its challenges, and their ability to deliver safe care. All our care homes have now been assessed and we are proud to advise that all have passed.

Angela RandleHead of Kindness, Care & Quality
Angela graduated as a Registered Nurse with BA (Hons) Nursing Studies in 1992 and later achieved Msc Health Professional Practice. Early in her nursing career, Angela gained a passion for working within the care home sector and gained her first role as a Deputy Manager in 1996. Angela progressed through various roles within care homes to a Home Manger position in 2009. She enjoyed several years as a Home Manager and achieved an outstanding rating with CQC. Angela was delighted to join Springfield Care Villages as Head of Kindness Care in Quality in December 2019.
Sarah PaskettManager, Chocolate Works Care Village
Sarah qualified as an RGN at St James Hospital, Leeds, in 1990. She worked within the NHS Gynaecology and Oncology departments for five years, before moving to the care home sector and continuing her nursing career. Her dedication to her work and successful progression through roles, lead to Sarah securing her first care home manager position in 2000. Since then she has gone on to manage a further two care homes and one domiciliary care service, before taking her current role as Care Home Manager here at The Chocolate Works Care Village in 2016.
Ellie BillanyHead of Training & Learning
Ellie has 12 years’ experience of working within care home settings and has a proven track record of supporting individuals with complex mental health needs. She has been successful in helping individuals retain their care placements when challenges have put them at risk of losing this service. Ellie is qualified in Level 4 Training and Education and has spent time at Hull University Teaching Hospital working in occupational therapy, where a focus on enabling those she supports was fostered. She has also gained a BA Hons degree in Art; giving her the tools to promote enhancement and innovation, and as a result is focussed on improvement projects and supporting staff to gain better knowledge of the care industry.
Katie CliffInterim Manager, Mayfield View
Katie qualified as an RGN from The University of Manchester in 2009. She has spent her nursing career working in various clinical roles within the care home sector. She is dedicated and passionate about providing an excellent standard of care to the elderly. Her current role is Deputy Manager at Mayfield View Care Home where she committed to making a difference.
Charde BillanyAssessment & Admissions
Charde qualified as an Associate Practitioner at Hull University Teaching Hospitals in 2018. She worked within the trust on Medical Research in many different specialties studying medicines and devices, before moving to the community to support further with clinical research. Following her success and passion for community healthcare, Charde joined the Springfield family at Seacroft Grange Care Village as Admissions and Assessments Manager, whilst also undertaking the role of Regional Research Co-ordinator for the Springfield Care Villages Group.
Eve MoranDeputy Manager, Seacroft Grange
Eve is a Qualified Mental Health Nurse and has had experience in an array of settings including Dementia, Learning Disability and Forensic. Her heart will always lie with individuals living with Dementia and she was informed in her student days, nearly ten years ago, that she had found her niche. No matter which path life took her on she still found her way to the heart of Springfield Healthcare. Eve believes “there is nothing better than achieving things that other people think is impossible and we at Springfield do it every day, enhancing the lives of those we support”.
